There are many activities that visitors to Keld can enjoy. The landscape is spectacular and the area is famed for its wildlife, indeed most of the surrounding area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and an Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA). Local farmers work hard to make a living from hill farming whilst protecting the landscape for visitors to enjoy. The River Swale is a scenic river with nearby rapids and a waterfall cutting through limestone scenery.
The area is ideal for exploring on foot or bicycle; many people visit the area to ‘get away from it all’ and pursue hobbies such as photography and landscape painting.
Undoubtedly the most popular activity is trekking on the two national trails that cross at Keld, whose fame has spread to all continents.
Details of local events and activities will be available in our visitor centre when it opens later in 2010
